Detroit Garment Group Presents Sixth Annual FashionSpeak Conference to Gather Industry Professionals; Focus on Talent Retention in Michigan
Detroiters costume designer Phoenix Mellow to lead keynote session.
Detroit, MI, September 26, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Detroit Garment Group will host its sixth annual FashionSpeak, Michigan’s largest conference for the fashion industry, presented by Taubman, on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018, at the One Woodward building in Detroit. FashionSpeak brings together industry-renowned experts from many facets of the fashion world to share their knowledge and expertise with over 250 attendees, including students and professionals, through a variety of fashion-focused workshops during this one-day conference.
The 2018 FashionSpeak lineup will include:
- “Coffee and Conversation” with Lori McGhee, Group Director of Specialty Leasing for Taubman. McGhee will discuss the latest opportunities and trends in specialty leasing, including pop-ups, kiosks and more.
- Workshops: “The Benefits of Being a Fashion Accessories Designer” with Aki Choklat, Chair of the Fashion Accessories Design Department at College for Creative Studies; “The Birth of a Brand” with Tommey Walker Jr. of Detroit Vs. Everybody; and panel discussion with Laurie Tennant, Elizabeth Mays and Sara Searing, moderated by Linda Schlesinger-Wagner on “Going into Business with a Partner: Should You or Shouldn’t You?”
- Keynote Speaker Phoenix Mellow, costume designer for Detroiters, Mad Men, Stranger Things and Black Panther.
- A new workshop this year is the Meijer Merch Search, an opportunity for preselected FashionSpeak attendees to pitch their fashion product(s) to a panel of Meijer buyers, and receive expert advice and a chance to have that product sold at Meijer stores.
With this conference, Detroit Garment Group seeks to “Keep Michigan Talent in Michigan.” The invaluable support of experts in the fashion industry by way of sharing educational tools and resources with students and professionals alike brings this mission to life. Ultimately, FashionSpeak aims to bring people together with the shared intention of propelling the local industry.
FashionSpeak attendees including but not limited to students, designers, photographers, bloggers and fashion retailers will not only get to meet fashion industry leaders, but will get the opportunity to learn, network and participate in workshops to broaden their knowledge and increase their resources. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided, and attendees can participate in a meet-and-greet with the keynote speaker.
