Rock Hill School District Announces Its "Roving Chef" Event (Oct. 9), Where Students Experience a Hands-on Learning Event That Includes Cooking with a Real Chef

Rock Hill, SC, October 05, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Students at India Hook Elementary will learn about food safety, foundational cooking techniques, even cook with a real Chef. The “Roving Chef” event will be hosted by the culinary team of Southwest Foodservice Excellence (SFE), Rock Hill’s K-12 foodservice provider. Here are the event details:

· Location: India Hook Elementary School

· Date: October 9th

· Time: 9:00 AM EST

Students will tour the school’s kitchen, learning about the importance of food safety, washing procedures and temperature control when cooking - and even paying a visit to the walk-in freezer. Then, it’s on to the cooking section, where students will receive recipe instruction and the chance to make their own Pasta Salad.

Rock Hill District Chef Andres Romero, who will lead the instruction that day, explained, “As kids are cooking, we will talk about how healthy ingredients impact the flavor and nutritional value of food. We’ll also discuss some fun food facts and talk about what they like to eat.” Once every child has made his/her salad, the entire class will sit down to eat - and Chef Romero will ask them about how they feel about the lunch program. “We ask the students what they would like to see on the menu. Their feedback helps us to keep our school menus fresh and exciting every day,” said Chef Romero.

After a commemorating class photo, each child will leave the “Roving Chef” event with a certificate, chef hat and recipe card to take home. Chef Romero added, “Often, the students who join me in 'Roving Chef' events want to recreate the recipes with their parents at home.”

“Roving Chef” events are just one way that SFE encourages students to make healthier eating choices at school and at home. This signature program is designed to be fun and interactive, giving each child a chance to learn more about how to cook healthy foods that also taste delicious. “We want every student to find nutritious foods that also taste and look amazing, so that they are excited to eat at school each day - and ready to learn,” said SFE president Chef Monty Staggs.

SFE was established in 2004 as a limited liability company in Arizona. The company partners with over 100 school districts in the U.S. to provide food that is largely made-from-scratch, and it only serves the K-12 segment.
