Creta Maris Beach Resort’s Exercise for Emergency Preparedness
On Thursday October 4th, 2018, for seventh consecutive year, Creta Maris Beach Resort successfully conducted its annual exercise "Crisis Management as a result of a natural phenomenon" in its facilities.
Hersonissos, Greece, October 11, 2018 --(PR.com)-- On Thursday October 4th, 2018, for seventh consecutive year, Creta Maris Beach Resort successfully conducted its annual exercise "Crisis Management as a result of a natural phenomenon" in its facilities.
Having as a first priority the prevention, the timely preparation and the safety of the hotel’s employees and guests in case of an extraordinary natural phenomenon, this year's exercise scenario included the implementation of the "Crisis Management Policy" in case of an earthquake. In this way the resort aimed at a high level of preparedness of the specialized emergency team that has been created for this reason.
This year's exercise attracted the interest of the British diplomatic authorities, as expressed by the participation of the Vice Consul of Great Britain in Crete, Mrs. Aristea Chourdaki, who was welcomed at the premises of the resort by Mr. Andreas Metaxas, CEO of Metaxas Group and Consul of the four Scandinavian countries in Eastern Crete.
The event was honored by the presence of the Commander of the Fire Department of the Prefecture of Heraklion, Mr. Ioannis Maragkakis, the Regional Commander of the Coast Guard of Crete Commodore Alexandrakis Georgios and Hersonissos’ Port Authority Chief, Mrs. Athanasia Perisinaki, the Commander of the 3rd Special Unit of Disaster Response (EMAK) of Crete, Fire Colonel Tsikalas Georgios, the Commander of the Hersonissos Police Department, Georgios Makrogiannakis and the Fire Echelon of Hersonissos, the medical center of Hersonissos “Cretan Medicare” the doctor and the security technician of Creta Maris, the National Centre for Emergency Care (EKAV), the Hellenic Red Cross with the Samaritan Rescuers, the Civil Protection Department of the Hersonissos Municipality and the transport organization KTEL Heraklion-Lasithi.
Moreover, the exercise attended, as observers, by the Representative of the Ministry of Tourism, Mr. Aris Stratakis, the representative of the Regional Governor of Crete, Mr. Ioannis Koufakis, the Mayor of Hersonissos, Mr. Ioannis Mastorakis, the President of the Pancretan Association of Hotel Managers, Mr. Koumparakis Dimitrios, the Head of the Department of Inspection, Safety and Health at Work of Heraklion Prefecture, Mr. Maravgakis Michalis, and the Director of the Civil Protection Department of the Decentralized Administration of Crete, Mrs Efrosini Tsagkaraki.
The exercise, was carried out under the supervision of Mr. Efthimios Lekkas, professor of the Geology & Geoenvironment Department, of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, in cooperation with local authorities. In the context of the evacuation exercise, a lecture by Professor Lekkas was preceded with the title "Business planning for dealing with earthquakes and fires in a hotel’s environment," thus enhancing the knowledge of Creta Maris’ employees in terms of preparedness to deal with natural disasters.
