About the Author: Sacramento resident Daphne Oberon didn’t have to look far for inspiration in writing “Azulejo.” As a girl, her parents moved the family to Baja, Mexico, for several years, where she encountered many of the characters, animals and stories that would eventually find realization in her novel. “My accounts of pearls and buried treasure were inspired by tales I heard from fishermen,” states Oberon. “The descriptions of various mysterious lights combine my own accounts with those given to me by simple folk originating from Southern Mexico to Guatemala.” Unsurprisingly, horses also figure prominently in her life. An owner, breeder and trainer of Arabian horses, Oberon has managed horse farms in several U.S. states.
