Museum Store Staff Integral to Institution Success

By encouraging high standards of professional competence and conduct, the Museum Store Association (MSA) helps retail professionals in cultural institutions better serve their organizations and the public.

Denver, CO, March 19, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Museum stores provide a high impact point of contact with cultural institution patrons. The store is a place to reinforce the experience of visiting a cultural institution and to re-emphasize the mission of the institution. The museum store is a natural venue for building and expanding patron relationships and museum store professionals extend the educational message of the institution in addition to fulfilling a marketing role.

By encouraging high standards of professional competence and conduct, the Museum Store Association (MSA) helps retail professionals in cultural institutions better serve their organizations and the public. As part of this ongoing mission, MSA will announce its Knowledge Standards at its annual Membership Meeting during the 53rd MSA Retail Conference & Expo April 12 - 15, 2008, in Tampa, FL. The MSA Knowledge Standards highlight the core knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the daily job responsibilities of a cultural commerce professional.

“This is an exciting time for our association and our entire community,” said Board President Lauren Chapin Salazar. “Our Knowledge Standards program will benefit the entire museum store community and the institutions we represent, by bringing increased value to our institutions in the way we conduct business each day.”

An educational program including tutorials, self assessments and other curricula, utilizing the Knowledge Standards will be developed and implemented throughout 2008 and 2009. The Knowledge Standards program will guide MSA’s members through the education and skills they need to operate their stores and serve their institutions at the highest professional standards, enabling museum stores to become a more integral part of the institution’s mission and success.

Throughout the past year, MSA has worked toward becoming an increasingly dynamic organization that addresses its individual member and institutional member needs with innovative solutions. MSA knows if its member stores are successful in building customer relationships, this will benefit the institution in increased attendance and higher patron loyalty.
