Trinitas Invests in Growing Organic Almonds
Trinitas farms over 20,000 acres of almonds and olives in Stanislaus, San Joaquin, Solano, Tulare and Kings counties.
Dixon, CA, December 13, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Trinitas Partners, LLC, is excited to announce their move into organic almond farming and production, beginning with several blocks in Solano county.
“We have been considering organic farming, logistics and benefits for a while now,” said Ceil Howe III, Director of Farming. “The blocks we are transitioning in the Dixon-Winters area were chosen for their specific weather conditions and distance from conventional almond orchards.”
Trinitas committed to growing organic almonds just last year. “Long-term tree health is critically important,” noted Ryon Paton, Principal and Co-Founder of Trinitas Partners. “We had to make sure that we could keep the trees pest- and fungus-free while farming to the highest set of standards.” The chosen lands, which just received their Transitional Organic certification from California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF), are quite windy, which disrupts pest migration and dries out wet orchards, inhibiting fungus and molds. According to Mr. Paton, “At its best, organic farming is about using the natural environment to preserve the original attributes of the soil, to sustainably farm that land for generations.”
But is there a market for organic almonds? Most sources estimate organic food at less than 5% of total food sales. Yet sales of organic produce are growing much faster than the industry overall. “Demand for organic foods continues to grow, as consumers prioritize clean eating and healthier lifestyles,” said Allison Hoiberg, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Trinitas Farming. “Millennials are the most vocal advocates of buying organic foods for health and environmental reasons, but are often limited by [their] high price. As a demographic segment, Millennials’ purchasing power will increase over time and more will become parents, which will further boost demand.”
“We are committed to growing the healthy, delicious, and environmentally-responsible food that people want to eat,” continued Ms. Hoiberg. “Organic production, where possible, seems the best way to achieve that goal.”
