Steriods on Barcode

Simple barcodes come of age. Immunoassays on barcodes seamlessly convey medical and drug abuse results, track patient progress and even alert patients of impending health problems.

Alexandria, VA, March 20, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Today, Prognosys unveiled a series of new assay-imbedded barcodes based on the firm’s proprietary prognostics technology. Conventional 1-D and 2-D barcodes have become universally accepted in virtually all economic transactions because of their low cost and capacity to track large numbers of individual items. Realizing the value of barcodes’ acceptance in the marketplace, Prognosys developed proprietary (Patents pending) means to imbed sensors whose state can be read simultaneously while reading the identity of the barcode. Examples of such sensors, developed in collaboration with New Horizons Diagnostics of Columbia, Maryland, are lateral flow assays, ELISA, Sandwich and several other important health status indicators.

Economic Patient Care Delivery. The automated nature of assay-imbedded in barcodes, along with remote retrieval and update of assay and other test results, make it feasible to provide information to individuals more economically than at traditional point-of-care medical facilities. Periodic reapplication of medical tests for individual patients also provides the basis for “anticipatory” care at a physician’s office rather than at a costly hospital emergency room. In addition, Prognosys’ technology can be used to assess public health threats, such as drug-resistant Strep, avian flu, MRSA, and multiple sources of food contamination.
