Principled Technologies Publishes Results from Hands-on Testing of the Dell EMC PowerMax 8000 All-Flash NVMe Array and the Array of a Competitor

Principled Technologies (PT) tested two all-flash NVMe storage arrays to see which could better help organizations in the areas of performance, efficient use of capacity, and ease of management.

Principled Technologies Publishes Results from Hands-on Testing of the Dell EMC PowerMax 8000 All-Flash NVMe Array and the Array of a Competitor
Durham, NC, March 15, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Companies in the market for enterprise-class storage seek a platform that provides strong application performance, makes efficient use of storage capacity, employs an underlying architecture that will serve them well as their needs change over time, and makes routine tasks quick and easy to execute. A new study from Principled Technologies used hands-on testing to explore these capabilities for two all-flash NVMe storage arrays, the Dell EMC PowerMax 8000 and the array of a competitor (“Vendor A”).

According to the report, “The Dell EMC PowerMax array delivered 25 percent more IOPS on an OLTP-like workload. In a simulated migration of a compressible data set, the Dell EMC PowerMax exceeded the expected compression ratio while the Vendor A array failed to meet it. In contrast to the federated architecture of Vendor A, the Dell EMC PowerMax architecture lets both controllers access every disk, which could increase flexibility and reduce upfront planning and ongoing maintenance. Finally, the Unisphere for PowerMax management tool let us execute a routine task in half the time we needed on the Vendor A array.”
