Tell Me Something Good! Funk’s Legendary Band, Rufus, Can.
Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan have received their 3rd nomination for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Could 3rd time be a charm? The band hopes so!
Los Angeles, CA, December 07, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Could 2019 finally be the year for Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan to win its well-deserved place in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame? The coming year marks the third time that the band has been nominated for induction in the Performers category.
Will the third time be the charm? Only time and fans will tell.
Upon hearing of their 2019 nomination, founding band members, Tony Maiden and Kevin Murphy were elated.
“We’re very excited about the nomination. It ignited a fire to let us know that people still remember our music. They still love us!” Maiden enthused.
Facing racial obstacles and social barriers in the 1960s and 1970s, the band overcame all of them and left a trail of wins in their wake. One could say that it is one of the most popular and influential funk bands in history. Evidence of this is found in the four consecutive number one R&B albums, ten Top 40 Pop Hits, and five number one R&B singles. A spot in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame will lend proof of this and set the band’s impact in stone for generations to come.
Maiden states, “Thirteen records, and we never stopped. We had that magic, Rufasizing everybody, and they were loving it. We made albums on which all of the songs were great. Ours is a story with everything.”
For a band that is so consequential, and so well known, each member has had his or her share of heartbreaks and hardships since the band broke up in the early 1980s. However, this nomination could be a game changer. Maiden was asked what this nomination could do for the band and a possible future world tour.
“I go to sleep thinking about us doing it again,” Maiden responded with enthusiasm.
To honor this legendary group with membership in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, the public is a major component in the second part of the voting process. From now through December 9, 2018, fans are encouraged to cast their vote for Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan. The top five artists who emerge from the public vote will make up a fan’s ballot, which will be tallied along with other ballots to choose the 2019 inductees. Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan earned its nomination this year when more than one thousand historians, members of the music industry, artists, and every living Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductee voted for nominees in various categories. Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan was acknowledged in the Performers category, which means that the band demonstrates musical excellence and influence on other genres and performers.
Kevin Murphy says it best, “There was rapport with the music and the band. When all was said and done, it came together in such a magical way. You couldn’t deny that it was greatness.”
