Give, Golf and Honor Our Veterans - Hosted by Families of WWII Veterans
Frisco, TX, December 21, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Families of World War II Veterans celebrated its annual golf tournament and fundraiser on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at The Tribute in The Colony, TX. This year’s tournament was presented by MetLife, and a record number of guests attended to give, golf and honor our World War II veterans.
The golfers and sponsors of the tournament contribute to the Families of World War II Veterans scholarship fund. This year, the charity raised a new record in funds collected, totaling $110,000. Lisa Gunkle, a recipient of this year’s scholarship, was also in attendance and gave a speech about the organization and her grandfather, a decorated World War II veteran.
“We’re thrilled with the amount of donations and turnout at this year’s tournament,” said Sean Loving, Head of the Scholarship Committee for Families of World War II Veterans. “This year was a record year, and we hope to make our 2019 tournament an even bigger success.”
Some of the tournament sponsors this year included MetLife, Aetna, HealthMarkets, Careington International Corporation, Axia Strategies and many more. Many Careington employees also volunteered at the event. A complete list of sponsors can be found on the Families of World War II Veterans website.
Families of World War II Veterans was founded and is chaired by Barbara Fasola, CEO of Frisco-based Careington International Corporation. Fasola was inspired to create Families of World War II Veterans in honor of her father, a World War II veteran who served in the South Pacific.
Fasola visited the D-Day beaches of Normandy with her parents, where they visited the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial and observed the funeral of an American World War II veteran. It was on this trip Fasola had the idea to create a charity that both celebrated the heroes and sacrifice of the participants. Awarding scholarships to deserving young college-bound students seemed like a perfect cause and fit.
The mission of Families of World War II Veterans is to educate a new generation about World War II and its historical significance, to preserve the legacy of the heroes of this war and those dedicated to the war effort and to honor veterans' sacrifices by creating scholarship opportunities.
Families of World War II Veterans is a worldwide non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring the historical lessons of World War II are not forgotten.
