New York Shakespeare Company Presents Its Inaugural Production of Macbeth
New York, NY, December 31, 2018 --(PR.com)-- The New York Shakespeare Company proudly presents its inaugural production of Macbeth, William Shakespeare's haunting tale of a hero's fall from grace and how one man's selfish desires can tear down an entire country, and everything he once fought for.
Taking the lead role and directing will be Artistic Director/Founder of @NYShakesCo, David Hywel Baynes (Blacklist NBC, Gotham FOX). After appearing in countless classical productions over a 20 year career, David could think of no better Shakespearean Epic to begin the life of The New York Shakespeare Company.
David has been lucky enough to study some of Shakespeare’s most vivid characters including Richard III (for which he gained an Off West End Nomination for best actor), Brutus in Julius Caesar, The Dauphin in Henry V, Caliban in The Tempest among many others, and is excited to show New York what Macbeth means to him.
With an ensemble of only 7 actors, NYSC will be attempting to harness the imaginations of its cast to bring this classical tale of “murther,” love, trust and betrayal to life. Trying to look at the play with a modern mindset, and attempting to understand more about how the human psyche responds to certain situations, we can try and find something truly modern and relatable as well as wickedly entertaining. Simple, effective but most of all entertaining storytelling is the aim.
By removing imposed ideas on the play, we can explore what Shakespeare intended. The 400 year old play’s the thing. Shakespeare’s tale of one man’s selfish desire for power, and what he will do to maintain it.
Joining David as Macbeth’s “dearest partner of greatness,” Lady Macbeth will be Charlotte Bydwell. Charlotte has performed for the likes of San Diego’s Old Globe, appearing in productions of Much Ado About Nothing and Othello as well as creating for herself, taking her one woman film “The Nude Model” to premiere at 2018’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
The ensemble is made up of some of New York City’s finest undiscovered talent. Deb Radloff (Richard III, As You Like It/Old Globe) will be playing Duncan, Mark Ryan Anderson (Unforgettable, CBS. Various 59E59) will be playing Macduff as well as fight choreography, John Lampe (Artistic New Directions & SHENYC Festival) as Ross, Peter Evangelista (Succession, HBO) will be playing Banquo and Nazlah Black will be undertaking the role of Malcolm.
Choreography will be undertaken by Bridget Bose, Creative Director of Guilty Pleasures Cabaret.
