Irish Fiddle Legend Frankie Gavin Returns to Portland for Solo Performance Presented by CCE Oregon

Portland, OR, January 11, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Frankie Gavin, a genuine legend of Irish music, will be in Portland on February 6, 2019 for a solo appearance presented by the Portland Irish cultural non-profit, Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann (www.cceoregon.org). The concert will be held in the elegant upstairs ballroom of Kell’s Irish Pub at 112 SW 2nd Ave in Portland. Tickets at Eventbrite or at the door.

With All-Ireland Championship victories on both fiddle and flute, sixteen albums with Dé Dannan, seven solo albums, as well as appearances with such luminaries as Earl Scruggs, Stephane Grapelli, Sir Yehudi Menuhin, and The Rolling Stones, "the prince of Irish fiddlers" is one of the outstanding performers of the past thirty years. Comhaltas (pronounced “COLT-us”) is an international cultural organization headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, with branches worldwide, including a newly-formed branch in Portland.

Though mentioned in the Guinness Book of World Records (2010) as “The Fastest Fiddler in the World,” Gavin’s enduring appeal lies not only in his astounding technical ability, but also his unceasing quest for innovation. Musical pieces more commonly associated with the likes of the Beatles and George Frederic Handel are now commonplace in this Irish musician’s repertoire. Yet his traditional roots run deep as well – in 2018 he was awarded the top prize of Traditional Musician of the Year at the Gradam Ceoil TG4 2018 (Traditional Music Awards) in Ireland. Most pertinent of all is the knack he has for imparting to his audience his own enthusiasm, the sheer joy, the magic of great music-making.

The Micheal O’ Domhnaill Oregon branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann was named after the late, beloved Irish musician who made a home in Portland and inspired a love of traditional Irish music in this area. The branch sponsors weekly set dancing, instrument workshops, Sean-nós singing nights and is planning a program of children’s lessons in traditional Irish instruments and Irish language.

Tickets for the Frankie Gavin concert are available on Eventbrite or through the Events link on the CCE Oregon website at www.cceoregon.org. Advanced tickets are $26.67 and will be $30 at the door. Doors open at 6pm and the concert will begin at 7pm. Food and drink can be ordered from the Kell’s menu before the concert. For more information, contact cceoregon@gmail.com.
