Delta Phi Mu Sorority, Incorporated Welcomes Their Newest Members at the University of Kentucky, Royal Chapter

Delta Phi Mu, Inc., a multicultural sorority is expanding rapidly across the U.S.

Chicago, IL, March 23, 2008 --(PR.com)-- University of Kentucky is home to a proud new community for the recent Royal founders of Delta Phi Mu Sorority, Inc.

Christine Catron, Jourdan Coyle, Jacqueline Segura, Carmen Timmerding, and Maria Fernanda Valencia, have committed themselves to empower and make a difference in the lives of women at the University of Kentucky. Established on February 23, 2008, UK Royal is the latest member organization added on to the rapidly-growing Delta Phi Mu Sorority, Inc.

Delta Phi Mu Sorority originated at Purdue University in 1991 as a Latina-based organization, but has since incorporated and embraced multiculturalism as one of its distinguished unifying qualities. By this definition, Delta Phi Mu becomes the first multicultural sorority on the UK campus. UK Royal founders proudly explain, “We are a philanthropy-based sorority governed by the pillars of service, scholarship, and sisterhood. We are an organization that stands apart from all others even in our name and terminology. We are eager to make a difference together on our campus”.

“Our communities are our priority” is a slogan that UK Royal founders have taken to heart. As Delta Phi Mu Sorority, Inc. was built on a foundation of service to the community, the sisters of Delta Phi Mu stress the importance of donating service hours to the surrounding communities. Sisters complete on average, 40 hours of community service a semester through variety of causes.

Additionally, The University of Kentucky Royal participates in the Delta Phi Mu National Philanthropy which supports the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute in its fight against heart disease. The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute created the program "The Heart Truth", in conjunction with the "Go Red for Women" program and the "Red Dress" program, to raise awareness of the risks of heart disease. Heart disease is the #1 killer of women, specifically women of color.
