TSEF: The Social Entrepreneurs’ Fund Names Lara Metcalf as New Managing Director
Lara Metcalf joins Managing Partner, Liz Luckett to lead TSEF’s third and largest fund focused on entrepreneurs using data and technology to solve tough problems facing vulnerable communities.
Brooklyn, NY, January 30, 2019 --(PR.com)-- TSEF: The Social Entrepreneurs Fund, a leading early stage impact venture capital fund company, part of Maycomb Capital, whose mission is to invest in low income communities and the organizations that serve them, announced that Lara Metcalf has joined the firm as a Managing Director. Metcalf will help lead the development and execution of an integrated investment strategy focused on technology that reduces poverty and increases equity and access for vulnerable communities. Lara’s expertise will strengthen the firm’s continued focus on investments in fintech, health tech and human services tech in underserved markets.
“We are excited to have an executive with Lara’s talent and expertise as a member of our leadership team,” said Liz Luckett, Founder and Managing Partner of TSEF. “Over the years, Lara has been a leading practitioner in the impact investing space, applying her professional investing experience to new markets and structures to deliver better results for vulnerable communities alongside strong financial returns. We are confident that with her leadership, TSEF will continue to excel and serve our LPs and entrepreneurs at the highest level.”
Lara Metcalf brings deep experience from both traditional finance and impact investing. Before joining TSEF, Lara was a Fellow at The Engine, an early-stage venture fund founded by MIT, focused on commercializing groundbreaking scientific discoveries. Prior to The Engine, she served as the Managing Director at Social Finance where she developed $70M+ in pay-for success investments addressing issues such as improving maternal-child health outcomes, family stability, and reducing recidivism. Metcalf previously held the position of Chief Financial and Administrative Officer and Senior Associate Dean for Operations for Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. Metcalf began her career spending 18 years on Wall Street. As a Managing Director at Credit Suisse, Lara structured large, complex credit transactions and served as a trusted advisor to her institutional clients. Prior to Credit Suisse, she was a Vice President in the Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities Division at Goldman Sachs. Lara began her career at Morgan Stanley in the Municipal Bond Department where she worked with investors and state and local issuers to structure and tax exempt bond issuance.
“There are so many dedicated entrepreneurs, who are eager to create and scale meaningful technology businesses that drive progress on social and environmental issues but who lack capital,” said Metcalf. “I’m incredibly excited to be joining the high caliber team at TSEF and Maycomb Capital to focus on investing in these mission-driven and financially sustainable companies.”
