First Plant-Based Public School in US, KING Charter Schools, Campaigns for Startup Funding
KING Charter School is preparing to open the first completely plant-based public school in the United States. The board members of the organization are preparing to submit their application to the state of Florida on 1 February 2019 and are seeking $350,000 in funding via their GoFundMe campaign to cover interim startup costs while their application is reviewed before tax funding can be allocated from the state.
Pinellas County, FL, February 01, 2019 --(PR.com)-- KING Charter School saw a clear gap in public education when they realized no tuition-free, public plant-based schools were offered in the United States. They found that only private plant-based schools existed and these schools had significantly high tuition rates inaccessible to most Americans. Further, they noted that most schools introduce animal agriculture or animal cruelty to children upon entering the school system (for example, by showing a farmer milking a cow in a coloring book). “Children are compassionate. When they are born they would never think to harm an animal. But what are we doing to them and how is animal agriculture already into the school system at the preschool level?” said Maria Solanki, founder of King Charter School.
KING Charter School noted the following as key aspects of their program and vision:
● 100% plant-based food served in the cafeteria.
● Plant-based, cruelty-free curriculum and nutrition classes.
● Immersive trilingual learning program (English, Mandarin and Spanish).
● Community outreach to encourage a plant-based lifestyle through events and
classes.
● Future growth with a new school opening in each state where charter schools are authorized (42 states).
The school is intended to be used by vegan and non-vegan families alike as the program offers exclusive academic benefits not offered by most public schools. The school has been praised by linguistics experts for their multilingual offering as these programs are correlated with higher academic success for students. Solanki also noted that once their application is approved in Pinellas County, their organization will essentially have a “template” to use for the remaining counties in Florida with only minor information changes required to the application.
KING Charter School is a revolutionary organization that is introducing plant-based schooling to the mass market in the United States. Previously only offered by a small quantity of high-tuition private schools, King Charter School is dedicated to making public plant-based education a reality for every student. Their innovative plant-based curriculum, tri-lingual immersion program and community involvement lays the foundation for cruelty-free education for the future.
