Adoptions From the Heart Re-Opens Out-of-Area Domestic Adoption Program Nationwide
Wynnewood, PA, February 10, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Adoptions From The Heart (AFTH) is excited to announce the nationwide reopening of the Out-of-Area Domestic Adoption Program. The program is open for couples and singles between the ages of 23 and 52, who are hoping to adopt an African American child. To be eligible to adopt, prospective adoptive parents are screened through a home study process by a local nonprofit, licensed agency. AFTH will be able to perform home studies in CT, DE, NJ, NY, PA, and VA. Those who live elsewhere in the United States, may contact Stephanie Capriotti (StephanieC@afth.org) to find an eligible agency in your area.
In addition, families will be required to attend an in-person, two-day education course on the East Coast to work with AFTH. If the prospective parents are not African American, they will be required to complete specified education for transracial adoption.
All families wanting to work with AFTH Out-of-Area Domestic Adoption Program need to commit to AFTH’s open adoption standards. Open adoption is when there is some level of ongoing contact between the birth and adoptive parents after placement. Open adoption can become a legal agreement in some states but is recognized as a moral agreement in all states. Families are also required to have an in-person annual visit. Prospective adoptive parents must meet with the expectant parent prior to birth and/or placement of the adoptive child.
AFTH believes it is in the best interest of adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive parents to have an open adoption. It provides adoptive families access to medical records and additional information about birth families. It also allows expecting parents the opportunity to select the adoptive parents for their children.
