Limbo Films and R/West Team Up for 2nd Nationally-Syndicated Car Dealership Ad Campaign
Portland-based film company produces six zany ads for client R/West that highlight antics of suave car salesman “Rico” and echo success of “Trunk Monkey.”
Portland, OR, March 26, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Today, Limbo Films, a Portland, Ore.-based film production company, announced six new spots filmed for Brondes Ford car dealership. The new spots are now airing in Toledo, Ohio. The concept for the ads – which are already garnering a cult following and have inspired a line of merchandise – was created by Portland-based marketing agency R/West for its client Brondes Ford in Toledo, Ohio.
R/West and Limbo Films have previously collaborated on several campaigns, including the famous “Trunk Monkey” series. The current work follows a similar licensing model in which R/West will offer the spots for syndication to Ford dealerships nationwide.
“Working with Limbo on Trunk Monkey, we were able to take car dealership ads to an entirely new level,” said Sean Blixseth, creative director and president of R/West. “We knew we could easily work with Limbo to repeat our success given the creative concept behind the campaign we created for Brondes.”
The ad series features the antics of slick-talking car salesman Richard, aka “Rico,” who tries to sell vehicles at any cost with off the wall gimmicks. These include embodying the “smooth” process of car buying at Brondes by offering test drives with celebrity Billy D. Williams and the opportunity to wrestle for a deal against a world champion sumo wrestler. In the spot “Cannon,” innovative special effects and stunt work were used to bring to life Rico’s scheme of shooting a little person out of a cannon after every sale.
“Sometimes, in live-action special effects, you come up against a barrier during research that tells you a certain stunt simply cannot physically be done,” said Gary Nolton, Limbo Films owner and director. “Despite the challenges, in the end, we assembled all the right elements and were able to pull it off with only a few takes. It’s definitely one of the most unusual stunts I’ve shot."
Brondes Ford, a third-generation family business, has been a fixture for more than 70 years in Toledo. Since the 1950s, they have had a history of running humorous ads. All six new spots (titled “Meet Richard,” “Underwear,” “Cannon,” “Sumo,” “Billy D” and “Boss”) are currently running in the Toledo area, with syndication expected to appear in other markets across the country later this year.
In addition to television broadcast showings, the spots can be viewed online at richardsellscars.com and on YouTube.
