Remington College Baton Rouge Campus Students Tour Shell Convent Refinery
Process Technology students get chance to see careers in the field.
Baton Rouge, LA, March 01, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Remington College Baton Rouge Campus’ Process Technology students recently got a first-hand look at where their careers could take them.
Shell Convent Refinery and Sponsor Susan Kliebert, Shell Health Safety Security and Environmental Manager, hosted the students for an exclusive, guided tour on Wednesday, Feb. 6.
Throughout the three-and-a-half-hour visit, students learned about the refinery and its production processes, discussed safety procedures, and got a look at the control room and emergency response capabilities. To end the day, students participated in a question and answer session with an employee panel made up of people who started off as operators.
“Shell is a top choice employer for our students at Remington College,” said Elena Mate, Director of Career Services for Remington College Baton Rouge Campus. “Experiences like this are priceless for our students. They get to see real examples of what they are learning about and get a glimpse of where their education could take them.”
The Process Technology Associate Degree Program is designed to help students develop the skills necessary to qualify for entry-level positions such as plant systems operator, power plant distributor or dispatcher, or chemical technician.1
During the visit, Shell also donated Piping and Instrumentation diagrams from retired units to the Process Technology program.
“We can’t thank Shell and our Sponsor Susan Kliebert enough for this incredible day,” Mate said. “As a nonprofit college, giving back is at the core of our mission. We want to not only support our students in reaching their goals through career training programs, we want to improve the communities we serve. Shell is a shining example of that by donating their time and knowledge to the next generation of skilled workers.”
