Organic Lawn Care Movement Gains Momentum
Chicago, IL, March 26, 2008 --(PR.com)-- With spring time weather comes that desire to have a picture perfect lawn. It is now a common sight to see those big chemical lawn care company trucks driving around in our neighborhoods with employees spraying a liquid chemical concoction on our lawns. Within days the lawns are a bright glowing electric green. In our country where keeping up with The Jones' is as important now as it ever has been we are constantly striving to have our lawns be the representation of the health of our home. A perfect lawn means we have a perfect family. This trend appears to come at a cost however and an alternative to that pungent yellow spray is becoming more and more popular. A company called www.organiclawnsforamerica.com has set out to become the nationwide counterpart to the chemical lawn care business.

The chemical lawn care industry has grown into a multi billion dollar behemoth since it's birth in the seventies. Not only has it taken advantage of the "keep up with The Jones'" mentality it has grown into a corporate entity that has swallowed up the large majority of mid size and "mom and pop" operations nationwide. With ever increasing scrutiny concerning environmental issues and a trend of poor service at some of the larger companies many consumers are searching out a safe alternative. "Many of our customers come to us after a very bad experience with a big chemical company," says Owen Adams, marketing director with Organic Lawns for America. "They sign up for a service and find our very quickly that they will be called weekly in an effort to convince them to buy more services. That combined with the fact that the technician arrives at their home and completes the job in roughly four minutes and the homeowner becomes fed up rather quickly. We are seeing many people who want to take on the job themselves."

Another reason many people are making the switch to organic lawn care is because of the increasing awareness that the products used by the chemical lawn care companies are not very good for the environment. Just recently the EPA made a sweeping recommendation that all firms stop using MSMA a popular crabgrass control product. Research has shown that the chemical, when it adheres to the soil, turns into arsenic which is a known carcinogen. Another black mark on the industry is the suspicion that a very popular insect control, imadicoprid, is the main cause of CCD or colony collapse disorder. This is a phenomenon that is causing honey bees to literally disappear. Many researchers are blaming the overuse of the popular lawn care chemical.

In the past several years there has been an increase in the number of consumers who are interested in doing the right thing environmentally speaking which has spawned many start business that focus on organic methods when it comes to lawn care. "We are a new company but we have been overwhelmed by the response to our do it yourself organic lawn care program," says Adams. "We offer delivery of organic products directly to our customers doors on a pre-determined schedule. It's like having a lawn care service that shows up every five weeks or so but the products are organic and the homeowner is the applicator." Adams also said that they are planning for expansion that goes well beyond their initial start up plans. The green movement appears to be very well connected to a green lawn in 2008.
