Moorcroft British Art Pottery Master-Class in Manhattan

Miami, FL, March 27, 2008 --(PR.com)-- One of the leading artists from the Moorcroft Art Pottery in England will be coming to New York on May 3 & 4, 2008 to host a program of Master-Classes at the Omni Berkshire hotel. Alison Edwards will be demonstrating the intricate art of tube-lining and hand-painting Moorcroft pottery and New Yorkers will be able to try these distinctive decorative techniques by signing up for a Moorcroft Master-Class on either Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

Moorcroft has been famous for the tube-lined method of pottery decoration since 1897 when William Moorcroft first perfected his special technique. Liquid clay is trailed on to the vase using a tool like a cake icing bag and then ceramic colors are flooded on to the surface between the raised lines. After glazing and firing, the finished vases glow like precious stones in filigree settings.

William Moorcroft’s earliest vases reflect the art nouveau style of decoration which flourished in the early 1900s and his designs were sold by the most fashionable stores of the day, such as Tiffany’s of New York and Liberty’s of London. Now, more than a century later, Moorcroft designs are still avidly sought after by American collectors and connoisseurs of art pottery. The stunning 2008 collection will be on display at the Omni Berkshire hotel as part of a selling exhibition featuring recent work from the Moorcroft Design Studio.

Accompanying artist Alison Edwards from Moorcroft will be Robert Townsend, who will talk about all the latest designs and the time-honored techniques still used to create them in the original picturesque little pottery in Stoke-on-Trent, England.
