Rhode Island Senator Sheldon Whitehouse Tours Ecological Fibers’ Factory
“Green” Senator visits environmental success story in his own backyard.
Pawtucket, RI, March 15, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Rhode Island Senator Sheldon Whitehouse toured Ecological Fibers’ Pawtucket plant Friday, March 8 to learn about the environmental success of a homegrown New England business with distribution spanning the globe. A brief meet-and-greet was followed by the senator being given a tour of the approximate 150,000 square foot state-of-the-art production facility, science lab, and manufacturing center.
“It was great to be able to show our innovations to the senator, who adamantly supports environmental preservation. To demonstrate that there is a better way to do things and prove that it works and can be successful is a big step in the right direction,” said John Quill, President of Ecological Fibers.
Sen. Whitehouse and Quill spoke in depth about the 114-year history of the site, purchased by Ecological in 1979, the innovative business practices developed over those years, and the future of the company. The overarching theme of the conversation was a shared notion that “going green” should not be viewed as a hindrance to a successful business model, but rather that the two should go hand-in-hand.
Ecological Fibers’ coated papers contain no solvents or known carcinogens, while production releases zero hazardous air pollutants (HAPS) into the atmosphere; providing a safe environment for employees, customers and the surrounding neighbors. Solvent free, 100% water-based coatings and a proprietary in-house water treatment plant allows Ecological Fibers to treat over 10,000 gallons of water a day before releasing clean water back into Narragansett Bay for communal use. Ecological recycles over a million pounds of paper annually, which results in the saving of over 9,300 trees contributing to the production of over 2.4 million pounds of oxygen annually.
