Meals On Wheels of Tampa to Deliver Hurricane Preparedness Packs to Elderly & Homebound Neighbors Saturday Morning
Tampa, FL, May 11, 2019 --(PR.com)-- On Saturday, May 18th, Meals On Wheels of Tampa (MOWTampa) will provide over 800 hurricane preparedness packs to all program recipients in preparation for this year’s hurricane season. The hurricane packs will consist of nonperishable food for up to five days, water, shelter information including pet friendly shelters and an emergency checklist.
Many of MOWTampa’s recipients are homebound and/or elderly. With the simple act of knocking on someone’s door, MOWTampa is providing daily safety checks in addition to a hot meal. With the hurricane packs, MOWTampa is able to provide a little more safety in the event a storm hits again this year. Hurricane Irma caused a disruption in the meal delivery service for almost a week last year.
MOWTampa is a privately funded non-profit organization that was founded in Tampa in 1975. TECO has generously sponsored this year’s Hurricane Preparedness Pack Program, ensuring Tampa’s homebound neighbors are educated and prepared in case of inclement weather.
Volunteer drivers are needed to help deliver the packs to recipients Saturday morning, May 18th. Routes take 60-90 minutes to complete.
