The Historic Newagen Seaside Inn Becomes a Member of "Historic Hotels of America"
Boothbay Harbor, ME, March 30, 2008 --(PR.com)-- The Newagen Seaside Inn, known for its captivating combination of classic elegance and warm hospitality, has been named a member of the Historic Hotels of America by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
“We are very excited and honored that the National Trust has selected The Newagen Seaside Inn for membership,” said owner Scott Larson. Since purchasing the Newagen the Larsons have made capital improvements to upgrade and renovate the resort while maintaining its charm and grace.
The Newagen Seaside Inn sits on nineteen pristine acres at the southern end of Southport Island, just six miles from the fishing village of Boothbay Harbor. While the current structure dates back to 1943, the site has been a popular destination since the late 19th century. It was amidst the unspoiled beauty of Newagen that Rachael Carson, the renowned inspirational nature writer, spent many hours of enjoyment. Ultimately, she completed much of her research and writing for “The Edge of the Sea” and later for her internationally acclaimed “Silent Spring” at Newagen.
Each of the inn’s rooms, suites and cottages offers stunning views of the ocean and coastline offering classic furnishings and décor that add to the charming seaside ambiance. Resort activities abound on property and for the outdoor enthusiast there are many nature trails for exploring. For a unique activity, the vintage “Pine Room” offers two lanes of candlepin bowling. The Cape Harbor Grill restaurant, known for its crab cakes, offers fine dining and is open to the public. Southport Island and The Newagen Seaside Inn were recently named in Downeast Magazine, (http://www.downeast.com) , as one of the top 15 Small Town Getaways in Maine.
