“Womb Doula” Cindy Bonaparte Awarded Grant from L.A. Department of Mental Health
Los Angeles, CA, June 06, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Reiki teacher and “womb doula,” Cindy Bonaparte will facilitate a free Reiki Level I certification class for lower-income “women of color” on Sunday, June 9 at Women’s True Healing (WTH), a center for holistic therapies for female reproductive wellness in Redondo Beach, Calif. The class is made possible by a Community Engagement Grant for Mental Health Awareness awarded to Bonaparte by the Los Angeles Department of Mental Health.
The class is entitled “Ubuntu-Care Reiki I: Mending the Heart-Womb Connection.”
Bonaparte credits a recent trip to Egypt with inspiring this project: “’Ubuntu’ is a South African word that means ‘I am because we are.’ This class is all about healing traumas that affect the womb, and healing that comes through mutual caring.”
Reiki I enables graduates to give energy healing to themselves, friends, and family. It is the prerequisite for Reiki II certification, which promotes students to the professional practitioner level.
The class also includes a “Shamanic Yoni Steam Healing” session. Lunchtime speaker, Aisha Dixion-Peters, PsyD, a licensed Certified Clinical Trauma Professional Psychologist will speak on “Mental Health Awareness for Black Women and Other Women of Color,” focusing on how community Reiki and Yoni Steaming heal through support and activation of the parasympathetic nervous system to combat anxiety, depression, and trauma.
For the past three years, Bonaparte has integrated her 8-year Reiki practice into her WTH apprenticeship under the tutelage of director Marcia Lopez. She arrived with an extensive background in multiple disciplines, including massage, Thai reflexology, doula training, and Ayurvedic healing. Her B.A. degree in sociology, along with Public Health Urban Environmental Policy studies helped lay the foundation for her community-minded vision and desire for social justice.
“As a black woman, I’ve suffered depression and anxiety, struggled with economic hardships, racism, and sexism in my life and work,” Bonaparte says. “My goal is to play a role in empowering more women of color to become connected to their bodies, communities, and spirituality.”
