In “Dark Betrayal,” Lisa Seidel shares her quest to find new love in light of a failed marriage. She seeks a Christian man to round out her own life and to provide guidance for her three sons. Answering an online ad seems to be a blessing at first, when she meets a handsome man who seems to be just what she needs.
Things escalate quickly, as the two seemingly fall in love and she marries again. But all is not as it seems, and she learns from the man himself that he’s involved with the Mafia and their movements are being monitored. As her new husband begins to show his true colors, including his unwillingness to manage money properly, Lisa finds herself on a downward spiral that leads to her worst nightmare – losing her precious children and everything else, but her faith.
It’s the story of betrayal “that will go deeper than any knife,” the author writes in the prologue. “It would be hard to ever imagine, even in a nightmare, that someone could come into your life and have such a destructive and devious plan.” But domestic abusers seem to have the ability to know just what to say and when to say it to retain control over their victims.
