Trek Across Country Raises Awareness of Childhood Cancer
Thomas Curran Walks to Raise $20,000 for Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation
Irvine, CA, June 09, 2019 --(PR.com)-- On February 2, 2019 Thomas Curran, an Orange County, California restaurateur left Holden Beach, North Carolina and headed west. The 50-year old has since walked 1,450 miles and is expected to reach California in September. His trip is a long journey of self-discovery with one real life-changing by-product.
“I set out on this adventure to find myself and to prove that I could do it,” says Curran, “however since the get-go I’ve been learning about new places and people and how generous folks can be.” He’s referring not only to the local hospitality he’s encountered, but also to the donations being made to the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (PCRF). So far he has raised $7,750 with a goal of $20,000.
To find out where Thomas is on his journey, visit to his website www.movingonwest.com. He encourages people to stop, talk and maybe share one of his famous recipes. He’s not been disappointed at the hospitality and friendliness he’s encounter so far. He selected PCRF as his charity of choice because his ex-wife was a childhood cancer survivor and her parents were part of the founding members of PCRF in 1982. Since then PCRF has raised more than $44 million to fund cutting edge research to fight the #1 cause of death by disease in children. “My journey is big but it doesn’t even come close to what these kids go through. They’re fighting a more important battle than most of us can even begin to imagine.”
Thomas recently passed through the Ozarks and his next stops include destinations along the historic Route 66 including: Amarillo, Albuquerque and Flagstaff.
“We are all so grateful for Thomas’ conviction to the cause and for all the goodwill he is spreading on behalf of our vision to eliminate childhood cancer through leading edge research,” said Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation’s Executive Director, Jeri Wilson.
