Operation Food Search Names School Superintendent to Its Board

Saint Louis Public Schools' Superintendent Dr. Kelvin R. Adams joins agency's board.

St. Louis, MO, June 20, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Operation Food Search (OFS), a non-profit hunger relief organization, recently named Dr. Kelvin R. Adams to its board. Board members are eligible to serve two consecutive three-year terms.

Dr. Adams is the Superintendent of Schools for the Saint Louis Public Schools. He oversees more than 22,000 PreK-12 grade students, and he is responsible for the daily operations of the District’s over 4,000 employees and $400 million budget. His vision has helped create single-gender classroom schools, an African-centered curriculum school, a nationally recognized school for new Americans, a new medical and bioscience high school, a designated educational therapeutic support school for PreK-8, and the expansion of early childhood classrooms.

Under Dr. Adams’ guidance, Saint Louis Public Schools has increased its graduation rate, improved test scores, and boosted attendance rates each year. In 2012, the District’s accreditation status was upgraded from Unaccredited to Provisionally Accredited. In 2015, the District earned enough points to be Fully Accredited.

“Dr. Adams has the educational and leadership background we need on our board,” said OFS’s Executive Director Kristen Wild. “Since we focus on children’s hunger and how food insecurity affects their lives at school and at home, Dr. Adams’ insight will be a true asset to our organization in understanding how to better tackle this problem.”

“A child who is hungry cannot focus on his lesson. A child who is hungry struggles to develop meaningful relationships with classmates and teachers. Unfortunately, we see it in our district every day, which has led us to make changes in how we provide meals and snacks to students,” said Dr. Adams. “In order to set up children for success, we have to remove barriers – basic needs like hunger and food insecurity – that prevent students from reaching their full potential. I look forward to serving on the OFS board and am committed to supporting efforts to help end hunger in our region.”

Founded in 1981, Operation Food Search (OFS) is a hunger relief organization that provides food and nutrition education.
