Financial Independence Group Helps Area Students Eliminate Lunch Debt
Company Erases Student Lunch Debt for 279 Area Students.
Cornelius, NC, June 22, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Financial Independence Group, LLC (FIG), a leading field marketing organization, is pleased to announce the FIG Community Service Board has contributed $5,234.63 to erase lunch debt for 279 students at seven different schools within the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools system.
The contribution will help eliminate student lunch debt for local students so they can focus on their academics, graduation, and other end-of-year plans.
“FIG is known as being a family-oriented company. It is natural for us to extend that concept into our community and look for ways to help children and families,” said Tracia Cericola, Chief Administrative Officer at FIG. “In fact, almost every community service project we participate in as a company can be linked back to helping children of local families.”
Ballooning student lunch debt has become a bigger problem in recent years for families and schools across the country. According to the School Nutrition Association, 75% of school districts nationwide report having unpaid student meal debt. This year in Northern Mecklenburg County alone, the student lunch debt was more than $17,000.
“Student lunch debt was recognized by one of our employees a few years ago as being an issue in our local school system, and many of us have seen nationally how the lunch debt can negatively impact a student,” Tracia said. “We wanted to help ensure students in our area wouldn’t have those experiences.”
The FIG Community Service Board connects FIG employees with opportunities to make a positive impact in the community. Each year, FIG and its employees support various charitable initiatives and organizations, including but not limited to, the Ronald McDonald House, the Ada Jenkins Center, and the Backpack Buddies children’s meal program.
