Startupbootcamp Launches Its First Scale Program in Osaka, Japan
An equity-free innovation program for high growth Smart Cities and living companies to expand globally, increase their revenues, and access funding opportunities in Japan, the world’s 3rd largest economy.
Osaka, Japan, June 27, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Startupbootcamp, the leading global network of industry-focused accelerators, today announces the launch of its Startupbootcamp (SBC) Scale Program in Osaka, Japan. This innovation program will support growth-stage startups – known as scaleups – looking to expand their businesses into the Japanese market, increase their revenues and access funding opportunities.
Following the lead of Startupbootcamp’s previous successful Scale programs in Mexico City, San Francisco, Taipei and Miami, Startupbootcamp adds Osaka to its global family of innovation programs. The Osaka program will target and scout growth-stage Smart Cities & Living scaleups across a wide range of industries including Mobility, Living, Tourism, and Health & Wellbeing.
SBC Scale Osaka is supported by some of Japan’s, and the world’s largest corporations, including Hankyu Corporation (Business agent: Hankyu Hanshin Properties Corp.), JR West Innovation, Dentsu, Sakura Internet, JT, The Yomiuri Shimbun and SMBC. As well as placing a focus on sales, business development and running pilots with Japanese companies, Startupbootcamp Scale Osaka will connect, develop and mentor scaleups through a semi-remote three-month program based in Osaka.
Joshua Flannery, Managing Director of Startupbootcamp Scale Osaka, said, “There has never been a better time for entrepreneurs to enter the Japan market. The country has the largest SaaS technology market in Asia and last year alone, Japan registered over US$191 billion in M&A deals. This growth puts Osaka, and the surrounding Kansai region, on the global innovation map.
“Having worked with small businesses looking to enter Japan in the last decade, often we were faced with hands-off government-led support services and expensive market entry consultants that made scaling in the region difficult. SBC Scale Osaka was designed to address these challenges. The program is free of fees, equity-free and aligns participating startups with high-end potential customers, while offering hands-on business development and market-entry support. We are opening up new opportunities for high-growth startups to expand in Japan ensuring they are fully-equipped to succeed in the market.”
Chikara Takagishi, Senior General Manager of the Urban Management Division at Hankyu Hanshin Properties – Startupbootcamp Scale Osaka partner, said:
“We are looking forward to designing a future society with startups coming to Osaka through SBC Scale Osaka, and to showcase innovation from Osaka, to the world. The high market potential of Kansai and Osaka has enabled many large-scale projects aimed at creating the next generation of cities to come to fruition, including the World Expo planned for 2025.”
