Based in Las Cruces, NM, Las Cruces M&S opened its doors in 1962. James Doss’ father, Jim, purchased the company in 1976 and sold it to James and his wife, Elizabeth, in 1987.
“I have been involved with the moving business for about as long as I can remember,” James said. “My wife married into the business and our three young adults—Jim, Mitch and Kristi—were raised in the business. I’m super-proud of these kids. They have persevered and grown in a business that can be very challenging and they have no fear of hard work.”
Jim is the company’s general manager while his younger brother Mitch is a driver and field manager. Daughter Kristi keeps the office running smoothly.
“The Doss family takes an old-school work ethic and places it in a modern-day setting,” National Van Lines Executive VP Mark Doyle said. “We like the values the Las Cruces M&S team brings to the table.”
The sentiment is reciprocal. In fact, it was National Van Lines’ strong word-of-mouth reputation that significantly impacted the Doss’ decision to sign on as an NVL agent.
“We put out several feelers in an attempt to make the right choice,” James said. “I talked with my sister and her children, who have been National Van Lines agents for some years now. They continually sang the praises of National Van Lines. That carried a lot of weight with me.”
