The Igbo Organization of New England (IONE) celebrates Nigerian Heritage with 6th annual cultural festival at Franklin Park in Boston.
Boston, MA, August 01, 2019 --(PR.com)-- The Igbo Organization of New England (IONE) will hold its 6th annual Igbo Day Cultural Festival on August 10 in Franklin Park Field in Boston. The free outdoor festival, which attracted almost 5,000 revelers last year, is a day full of traditional Igbo music and cuisine, masquerades, cultural performances, and art representing all the Igbo communities across Southeastern Nigeria.
“Igbo culture is rooted in age-long traditions and worldview,” said Dr. Ejike Eze, President of IONE. “This festival will capture the essence of several such aspects of the culture.”
“Even those who do not speak the language will enjoy the day,” said Eze, who assures the taste buds of the curious and experienced alike will be thankful they made the trip. “All the food will be delicious and represent authentic Igbo cuisine.”
Traditional Igbo cuisine includes fufu (cassava dipping bread), jollof rice, akara (fried spicy bean patty), suya (spiced meats kebabs) and nsala (white pepper soup), to name just a few.
“Igbo Day will also feature a variety of cultural displays,” said Eze. “Of particular interest to many will be the masquerade displays.” The masquerades are festive, often boisterous dances with costumes and masks, which can vary in style depending on the individual Igbo villages and occasions being celebrated.
In between masquerades, visit the replica of an Igbo royal palace built on Franklin Field. “Kingship and royalty for instance is an important aspect of Igbo culture,” said Eze. “Many titled elders will be there with the President representing royalty in Igbo land.”
For those celebrating their Nigerian heritage, and for those curious about exploring Igbo culture – the Igbo Day Cultural Festival offers the ultimate opportunity to get out of town, right here in Boston.
“It’s a good way of understanding and enjoying Nigerian culture, especially the food, music and dancing,” added Eze.
The 2019 Igbo Day Cultural festival will be held on August 10, 2019 at Franklin Park Field in Boston. The free all-day event will run from 10am to 6pm.
