TD Charitable Foundation Awards Grant to Integrate Blind Individuals Into Their Community
Palm Springs, FL, August 08, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Florida Outreach Center for the Blind, Inc. of Palm Springs, Florida, has announced that it is the recipient of a $7,500 grant from TD Bank through the TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank America’s Most Convenient Bank. The TD Charitable Foundation has awarded more than $220 million in grant funding to not-for-profit organizations in the communities where it works, lives and does business since its inception in 2002. The TD Charitable Foundation is striving to make the world a better place to live and through its Ready Commitment is working to achieve connected communities where everyone can be included and participate in their community. The grant funds will be used to provide training and support to blind and visually impaired individuals that will allow them to acquire the confidence and skills they need to live independently, prepare for the workplace and be active members of their communities.
Florida Outreach Center for the Blind, Inc. was established in 2003 by Carolyn Lapp, with the mission to develop and administer programs that will integrate blind and visually-impaired persons into the social, economic, and spiritual lives of their community.
Over 30,000 individuals in Palm Beach County are visually impaired, many of whom have lost their vision later in life due to eye conditions such as age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma. These individuals have never received the training required to adapt to their vision loss.
The TD foundation grant will help to provide the resources needed to offer individuals with vision loss training and support in the areas of independent living, mobility, Braille, computers, and other assistive technology. In addition, students will benefit from the support, resources and social opportunities offered by the Center. These skills will allow them to live independently, prepare for the workplace and be active members of their communities.
