OmniPresence and Freedom Calls Connect U.S. Marines in Iraq to Their Families and the NHL
Marlborough, MA, April 02, 2008 --(PR.com)-- OmniPresence, Inc., the leading provider of Integrated High Definition Videoconferencing Solutions worked with Freedom Calls Foundation to connect US Marines serving in Iraq to their families during a recent Boston Bruins Hockey game at the TD Banknorth Garden. OmniPresence set up a High Definition Videoconferencing system that was used to connect the Marines with their families and Bruins players following the game. Working in conjunction with the TD Banknorth Garden AV staff, the live game footage was actually transmitted to the Marines in Iraq via the videoconference. Throughout the game, live shots of the Marines were displayed on the arena’s Megatron, which resulted in rousing applause from the fans attending the game.
“This was a very unique experience. In several other sporting events we have connected our troops via videoconferencing, but never before have we integrated the entire game experience into the video call”, stated Tom Wing, CEO of OmniPresence. “This shows once again the versatility of this technology, as well as the creativity and technical superiority of the OmniPresence engineering staff.”
Prior to the start of the game, Cam Neely, Hall of Fame Bruins player, and Vice President of the Boston Bruins, spent some time with the Marines expressing his thanks for their sacrifices and service to their country. Cam received some interesting questions from the Marines, such as the Bruins’ chances in the upcoming playoffs, as well as a humorous question regarding Cam’s career in motion pictures. The Marines were thrilled with the opportunity to visit with Cam, who once again proved he is a class act on and off the ice.
Current Boston Bruins player Bobby Allen spent some time over video with the Marines following the Bruins 4-0 victory. Bobby expressed his respect and thanks to these Marines for their dedication and loyal service. Bobby mentioned his father is a VietNam veteran, and would also be extremely proud of these young men and women for their service.
At this point, it was the Marines’ turn to visit with their loved ones over video. “The AV staff at the TD Banknorth Garden were very gracious and accommodating to the families, allowing them all the time they needed to spend with their Marines”, stated Tom Wing. “Seeing the reactions of the Marines, their Mothers and Fathers, brothers and sisters, and even one Marine’s fiancée, made the whole day absolutely worth it. Listening to the laughter of the families, as well as even seeing the tears in the families’ eyes, makes me proud of the people I have working on my team at OmniPresence.”
“Throughout history, tours of duty in wartime have served to separate families. The Freedom Calls Foundation is transforming the experience of our military personnel on extended deployments in wartime; Though separated from their families by overseas duty, these brave men and women no longer need be estranged from their families in time of war; They can now participate in milestone family events such as births, school graduations, anniversaries, etc. from the front lines via video conference over the Freedom Calls Network.” stated John Harlow, Executive Director of the Freedom Calls Foundation.
High definition video delivers a rich, interactive experience, with clear images, fluid motion and rich audio that makes you feel like you are having a face to face conversation without having to travel. OmniPresence integrates High Definition equipment into their conferencing solutions, enabling people to meet “Face-to-face” at a distance.
