Lilly Pulitzer (Las Olas) Invites Fans of the Iconic Resort Wear Line and the Oceans to Shop For A Cause in Support of the 1000 Mermaids Artificial Reef Project

Lilly Pulitzer (Las Olas) to provide Sips and Sweets during a special shopping event with 10% of all proceeds going to the 1000 Mermaids Artificial Reef Project.

Fort Lauderdale, FL, August 21, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Lilly Pulitzer, a creator of authentic American Resort Wear known for its Bohemian spirit and popular prints has partnered with the 1000 Mermaids Project through their charitable Shop For A Cause program with 10% of proceeds from sales on the day of the event going to the project. The event will be held on Thursday, August 29th from 4pm - 8pm and will feature sips, sweets, selfie station with a mermaid tail and potentially a live body-casting of one of the sculptured mermaids.

The non-profit approached the store after seeing their Mermaid Cove prints in the window and found a synergy in the dual belief in magic and mermaids and the magical transformation this underwater eco-art project will do for the reef off of Fort Lauderdale Beach.

“If you don’t have charity in your heart, you have the worst kind of heart trouble.” - Lilly Pulitzer. Lilly herself was a very charitable woman, she would partner with local groups to help maintain and build the community. Since Lilly’s passing, the company believes it is important to follow in her footsteps and continue to host events with local non-profit organizations to continue in her legacy and help bring awareness to these organizations in our local community.

The Mermaid Cove print and newest Fall collection includes kids and adult swimsuits, dresses, skorts, shorts, rompers, hats, and totes that feature brilliant undersea scenes to camouflage some mermaids. The assortment is available for sales in store and online at www.lillypulitzer.com.

"We are proud to team up with Lilly Pulitzer," said Evan Snow, 1000 Mermaids Executive Director. "Ironically, this eco-art project that features mermaids sculptures ties in perfectly with the fantastic Mermaid Cove print they created and overall the brands prints have such a likeness to the color and vibrancy of coral reefs.”

The Florida Reef System (FRS) is the largest coral reef ecosystem in the continental US, with its extensive shallow coral reefs that span 358 miles from the Dry Tortugas near Key West, north along the Atlantic coast to Martin County. Our treasured coral reefs provide Florida with many benefits and much like coral reefs around the world, many are dying from a range of issues from coral mining, pollution (organic and non-organic), over fishing, blast fishing, disease, destructive fishing practices and warming oceans.

The artist duo behind this project, Sierra Rasberry and Ernest Vasquez have partnered with veteran reef builder Chris O'Hare to create this monumental public Eco-Art project in the form of an artificial reef installation that will also serve as an underwater eco-friendly destination for tourism & research. Its mission is to enhance marine habitats and expand fishery populations while providing enhanced creative, economic and educational opportunities for the benefit, education and enjoyment of residents, students and visitors alike.

“The mermaid is the symbol of humans and our relationship with the water,” Vasquez says. “People don’t realize the issues we have with the ocean, because we never think to look under the water. By body-casting people, it gives them an environmental connection to the reef.”

About Lilly Pulitzer
Lilly Pulitzer speaks to generations of rule-breaking, sun-followers who celebrate the spontaneous bohemian spirit of Lilly Pulitzer. The company’s effortless fashions are truly born from an original. It all happened by accident, when in 1959-ish Lilly (McKim) Pulitzer—a stylish Palm Beach hostess and socialite whose husband Peter Pulitzer owned several Florida citrus groves—needed a project of her own. With Peter’s produce, she opened a juice stand on Via Mizner, just off Worth Avenue in Palm Beach. Lilly Pulitzer’s business was a hit, but squeezing oranges, lemons, limes, and pink grapefruit made a mess of her clothes. Realizing that she needed a juice stand uniform, Lilly asked her dressmaker to design a dress that would camouflage the stains. The result? A comfortable sleeveless shift dress made of bright, colorful printed cotton in pink, green, yellow and orange. Although her customers liked Lilly’s juice, they loved her shift dresses. Soon Lilly was selling more shift dresses than juice, so she decided to stop squeezing and focus on designing and selling her “Lillys.” Lilly Pulitzer became a fashion sensation and a creator of authentic American resort wear as we know it. The brand is now more popular than ever and continues to create authentic printed styles straight from the in-house print design studio.
