Celebrating the Positive in the Face of Cancer: Survivors and Caregivers Are Invited to Share Their Stories in a New Book

A new web site, cancerjourneys.com, is seeking uplifting stories from people profiling how their experience with cancer taught a powerful life lesson that made their lives better in some way. The most touching and inspirational stories will be published in the book, Cancer Journeys, Healing Lessons in Life.

Tucson, AZ, April 04, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Have you changed your life for the better after being diagnosed with cancer? If so, a new book wants to share your story with others to provide hope, inspiration and healing. Cancer Journeys, Healing Lessons in Life is currently seeking uplifting stories from any one who made a life affirming change as a result of their journey through cancer. Many cancer survivors credit the disease as the catalyst to their own spectacular life after cancer. For many, their Cancer Journey taught them powerful lessons that made their lives better as a result. Yet when newly diagnosed, it is hard to imagine beyond the terror to see that something good can come of it. The heartwarming stories published in Cancer Journeys will help people to see beyond, giving them confidence for their own journey.

What makes this project unique is that the project’s director, Kristen Spinning, is not only a cancer survivor, she was also her mother’s care giver during her cancer journey. Kristen is passionate about focusing on the powerful, positive life lessons that are present even in the worst situations. She invites people diagnosed with any type of cancer, their families and friends, caregivers, advocates, or health care providers to submit their story. Stories must be true and show how the cancer journey resulted in a positive life lesson. The book will also feature visual artwork that expresses the cancer journey. Stories and artwork will also be available on the project's website, www.cancerjourneys.com.

“I am very excited to be able to bring together these stories so that others may gain hope, strength, encouragement and new insights,” said Kristen. “In my own journey through cancer, both as a patient, and then as a care giver, I experienced so many things that changed my life for the better. I also experienced profound loss and deep despair. The challenge is to hold on to lessons and commit to living a better life with what we have learned. By doing so we give meaning to the journey, and honor to those that we have lost.”

The book comes in response to the enthusiasm for Spinning’s own stories. “People kept telling me I should write a book. But I realized that it was not about me, and it was not about cancer. It was about giving voice to survivors, and honoring their journeys. I have met so many people with incredible inspirational stories, and I knew that together these stories could empower the millions of people living with cancer, or loving someone with cancer.”

A portion of the proceeds from all sales will be donated to non-profit cancer support centers.

Submission deadline for stories or artwork is June 15, 2008 and the book will be available December 1st. The website, www.cancerjourneys.com has complete information about the project and submission guidelines.
