The Bernard Noble Sculpture Foundation has chosen the extraordinary medieval e-village of Colletta di Castelbianco in Liguria in Italy to establish a sculpture park that will be open to the public on a permanent basis.
“We are exceptionally pleased to find that this newly established Foundation has chosen the grounds of Colletta to display the winners’ outdoor sculpture commissions,” says Luca Catalano, Director of Realitalia. “This is an exquisite location which already boasts an outdoor theatre together with panoramic views with a backdrop of the 13th century village which has been beautifully restored. The sculpture park can only enhance even further this magical place.”
The Bernard Noble Sculpture Foundation was established in 2007 and aims to encourage and promote young, emerging sculptors in Italy and in the U.K. by means of an annual award. The prize will be for a minimum of £5,000 and it is hoped that the size of the prize will be augmented by the creation of the Foundation’s non profit internet market or forum for sculptors to post and sell their work to the general public. The first prize will be in the summer of 2008.
“I am delighted that our winners will be able to display their unique sculptures in such an amazing location,” says Bruno Noble who has established the Foundation in memory of his father. “On this occasion, the winner will continue his work at Colletta where he will have a workshop. The idea is to have an artist in residence once a year who will spend a month there, talking about their art and carrying out their skills in public.
“Sculptures need light and contrast and benefit from being situated outside the formal constraint of the four walls of a museum. Colletta has verdant slopes of cherry and olive trees and its unique geographic location and many viewing perspectives make it a wonderful, natural place for a sculpture park.”
Colletta is for those who want to experience the ‘real Italy’. This once abandoned village is now a thriving centre of business and superb homes which have been lovingly restored. They are even provided with ancient artefacts sourced from local villages to ensure true authenticity of lifestyle.
However, each home also benefits from high speed internet connections, satellite TV and telephone connection to the village switchboard. There is a business centre in the village with two business rooms and Broadband. This makes the homes ideal for rental income as there are many who look to have a break from work – yet still need access to it.
There is a wonderful swimming pool set into the hillside, communal gardens, sauna, open air summer theatre, bar/osteria and holiday rental flats as well as a resident caretaker for letting management.
