United Methodist Communities at Bristol Glen Wins Best Taste Award
Marks fourth consecutive year of recognition at A Taste of Newton.
Newton, NJ, September 22, 2019 --(PR.com)-- For the fourth consecutive year, United Methodist Communities (UMC) at Bristol Glen, a CCRC (Continuing Care Retirement Community), has won an award at the annual A Taste of Newton competition among 18 culinary businesses - Best Taste (first place). Bristol Glen’s chefs prepared Braised Short Rib Street Tacos filled with espresso rubbed short ribs, fire-roasted tomato salsa roja, Jersey corn and red cabbage pickled slaw. For dessert, they offered Hot Pumpkin Donuts and Vanilla Panna Cotta.
During the annual event on September 9, the Greater Newton Chamber of Commerce closed Spring Street in downtown Newton, where the competitors highlighted their talents and menus. Tables featured samples of their best cuisine. Over 175 attendees sampled food and beverages throughout the increasingly popular evening.
Jeff Lisk, executive director of UMC at Bristol Glen, commented, "The creativity and execution from our culinary team exemplify the high level of skill and dedication to quality our residents experience every day. Several attendees asked who we were and about our restaurant location. When we responded ‘Bristol Glen,’ they looked puzzled and asked, ‘Isn’t that a retirement community?’"
In 2018 and 2017, UMC at Bristol Glen won Chamber Choice and Most Creative, and in 2016, People’s Choice and Most Creative. UMC at Bristol Glen runs a farm to table program, keeps beehives, consults with Sussex County Master Gardeners and other groups. They lease part of their 74-acre property to a local famer – all to promote sustainability and community supported agriculture.
A Taste of Newton promotes and increases community awareness of the dining establishments in the area. The Greater Newton Chamber of Commerce uses the proceeds to fund scholarships, two specifically for education in the food industry.
