Kathy Pooler Releases Powerful Healing Memoir About Dealing with Her Cancer Diagnosis and Son’s Addiction
As a young mother of two, Kathy Pooler thought she and her children were free from their alcoholic father only to find that years later, addiction would claim her youngest child, Brian. Wrapping her experiences up into a compelling new memoir, Pooler finally found the courage to tell her story.
Amsterdam, NY, September 27, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Synopsis: In this memoir, the author’s simultaneous battles of Stage Four Non–Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and her young adult son’s addiction to alcohol and drugs tests her resolve as she turns to her children for hope. However, the author’s determination to understand and gain some control over her son’s downward spiral comes to a standstill one day at her cancer diagnosis. She realizes she can no longer control Brian’s addiction. Hope is her only was to survive.
In the end, the author learns the truth about her son’s addiction. In the author’s words, “I want to offer hope and guidance for my readers who need to find their own way through the challenges of loving an addicted child.
“Addiction is shrouded in guilt and shame. No one is left unscathed. This may be my story, but it is also our story. It feels freeing to break the silence and let go of guilt and shame.”
Continuing, “Written for parents, particularly mothers, of children who are addicted, Just the Way He Walked is a story of love, faith, hope and breaking the cycle of addiction. Family relationships, father-son, mother–son, single parenting, the impact of addiction on families, and the need for education in breaking the cycle of addiction are all explored. The message of resilience and faith in the face of insurmountable odds serves as a testament to what is possible when one dares to hope.”
Since the author has blogged about her forthcoming memoir on her website, A Memoir’s Journey, "Just the Way He Walked" has generated a strong following and interest.
“This beautifully written story is an emotional page turner, well set up in the beginning where you witness the author’s courage with newly discovered inner strength and grace will leave you feeling inspired,” says Dorit Sasson, award-winning author.
The author hopes her story will inspire others to never give up hope when dealing with family addiction. “No matter how far down into the abyss you may go, there’s always a chance for recovery.”
