New Novel by Richard L. Collins Describes Defense Lawyer’s Latest Cases

An ambitious criminal defense lawyer stars in Richard L. Collins’ latest novel, which has been released by Dog Ear Publishing.

Los Altos Hills, CA, October 10, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Criminal defense lawyer Robert B. Collins lives by his professional credo to defend and protect innocent victims and to search for the truth. The fictional lawyer describes his latest high-profile cases in a new novel released by Dog Ear Publishing.

“Uptown Lawyer: A Growth Study of Criminal Law in an Advancing Socialist USA” serves as a sequel to the author’s first book, “Uptown Lawyer: A Study of Criminal Law in the Real World” and features many of the same characters. Collins, who graduated from the University of San Francisco School of Law, is just as passionate about practicing law as he is about his collection of 17 muscle cars from the 1950s to 1970s.

Other characters include his whip-smart vice president and CEO, a technology whiz, three investigators and three lawyers, and the man responsible for maintaining his fleet of muscle cars. Together, they help keep Collins and his 24/7 office in San Francisco running smoothly.

He will need to draw on all of their expertise if he wants to fulfill his dream – to expand his services to professional sports teams and athletes, ready at a moment’s notice to help them with legal matters. But that type of work means establishing a second office in Los Angeles, injecting more money into the business and hiring more help if he wants to keep his highly valued clients, including a large family that may (or may not) resemble the Kardashian-Jenner clan.

“Uptown Lawyer” serves as both a legal thriller and business manual, straddling the two concerns that consume its hero: impeccable legal defense and business expansion.

Collins takes on rich and famous clients, and the death threats and legal issues that follow in their wake, as well as NFL players and clients blamed for crimes they didn’t commit. The most important case he describes is one accusing a sheriff’s deputy of shooting their son in the back and letting him die in custody. Their hope to win the lawsuit and use the award money to support people who don’t have the means or ability to help or protect themselves strikes a chord with the compassionate lawyer, who vows to give the case everything he can.

As he and his investigators dig into the case, they uncover information about the deputy, a former Army veteran diagnosed with PTSD, but is that enough to help them win the case? There is nothing less at stake than retribution for a young man’s life taken too soon and keeping the community safe from future incidents just like it.

Author Richard L. Collins worked in the electrical industry for 40 years after attending San Jose State University. He began his career as an apprentice and eventually moved up to management at a local contracting firm. Collins, who has been retired for 20 years, began writing as a natural extension of his love of reading. The Wyoming native and his wife have been married for 58 years. They live in Silicon Valley.
