Marlborough’s Largest City-Wide Job Fair Comes Back Next Week
Fall job fair will showcase hospitality, retail and other entry- to mid-level positions.
Marlborough, MA, October 11, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Marlborough’s largest semi-annual city-wide job fair is coming back on October 17 from 4:30PM to 7:00PM at the Best Wester Royal Plaza Hotel & Trade Center.
Now in its eight year, the fall edition of the Marlborough Works Job Fair will feature hundreds of entry-level and mid-level job openings at 22 local companies, including five of the city’s 11 hotels, three restaurants, recreation and entertainment venues, retailers, manufacturers, IT and science firms, and more.
Organized by the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) as part of Mayor Arthur Vigeant’s ongoing efforts to increase local employment, the job fair will aim to give jobseekers the opportunity to meet face to face with local employers.
Quest Diagnostics, which was among the Forbes list of America's Best Large Employers in 2019, will be looking to fill over 60 Marlborough-based positions, while Apex Entertainment and GE Healthcare Life Sciences will be hoping to hire close to 30 people each. These and other local companies, including Best Western Royal Plaza, Goldfish Swim School, MindTrek VR, Target, Friendly’s, Invoice Cloud, HelixBind, and Dav-Tech Plating, will, together, be aiming to fill more than 200 open positions during the job fair.
Attendees will also have a chance to take part in one of three free Interview Workshops, run by MassHire Framingham Career Center, where they will learn interview skills and tips on how to sell themselves to a potential employer. Registration for the job fair is required, in order to attend the workshops.
Last year alone, more than 20 companies expanded in or moved to Marlborough, adding over 350 new jobs to the local labor market. Marlborough’s unemployment rate sat at 2.5% in July and August, coming in 0.4 percentage points below the state’s average of 2.9% and 1.2 percentage points below the national average for August, according to the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.
“Marlborough’s economy and job market have grown tremendously over the past few years, and it is our goal now to connect our local residents to these job opportunities,” said MEDC executive director, Meredith Harris. “This job fair, in particular, has a heavy focus on our hospitality, service and retail industries, all of which have really benefitted from the constant flow of new businesses into the city.”
“Companies are continuing to relocate to and expand in Marlborough every year, and we are very happy to see this result in both direct and indirect job creation,” said Mayor Arthur Vigeant. “We’ve seen a steady growth in the services, hospitality, transportation, retail and related industries and we hope to be able to pair up some of our residents with the local employers that are looking to fill these types of job openings at the fair.”
