Silent Opera, A Dream is a Dream is a Dream is a Dream to Premiere at McNay
San Antonio, TX, October 25, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Mexican-American composer, Nathan Felix, will again use headphones to present his new silent opera titled, A Dream is a Dream is a Dream is a Dream..., at McNay Art Museum on Thursday November 7 in San Antonio Texas. A Dream is a Dream is a Dream is a Dream... is inspired by and written to premiere at the McNay Museum of Art, for their Picasso to Hockney: Modern Art on Stage exhibition. The operetta takes characters who were involved in ballets around the time at the height of Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballet Russes and blends historical occurrences with fictional conversations. Featured characters in the performance include Pablo Picasso, David Hockney, Gertrude Stein, Coco Chanel, Igor Stravinsky and more.
This one time performance will occur on Thursday November 7 starting at 6:30pm in the main gallery at McNay. Felix is known for his guerilla style approach in presenting classical music in unconventional spaces and A Dream is a Dream is a Dream is a Dream... is given no exception, with a performance utilizing space and acoustics throughout the museum. Visitors can enjoy the intimacy listening to an exhibition soundtrack through the use of headphones blended with the immersive experience of opera singers performing in real time.
Listeners will be given a set of headphones before they enter the performing space and they are encouraged to walk amongst the various areas in which the performance is moves. The chamber ensemble will be led by Lonestar Philharmonic conductor, Richard Castillo.
