Safe Streets Initiative Has Declared December as Safe Streets Month in Denver, Colorado
Safe Streets Initiative is asking the Denver community to join them this holiday season in encouraging safe holiday consumption.
Denver, CO, October 26, 2019 --(PR.com)-- December is usually a time for coworkers, friends and family to gather and reconnect. Often times adults relax with a libation of their choice. It is a time for celebration after all.
However, what most people don’t think about is how they are getting home safely at the end of their evening. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), nearly 111 million people self-reported to having driven under the influence with 1 million people having been arrested for DUI in a single year. And according to Transportation.gov, “over the past 5 years, an average of 300 people lost their lives during the week between Christmas and New Year.” In December 2016 alone, more than 780 people lost their lives in DUI related crashes.
These startling numbers resulted in the creation of The Safe Streets Initiative (SSI), which is a coalition of businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies working to prevent crashes and fatalities in cities across America. SSI has asked the City of Denver to proclaim December as Safe Streets month in an effort to encourage everyone not to drive while under the influence.
“My hope in creating SSI is to recognize organizations who link together in solving an issue that can potentially affect every single one of us. It is so rewarding to see a dream come true,” states Kim Castle, creative founder of Verve Integrative.
SSI is proud to announce the first partnership with ONUS Rides™, an app-based service, to assist in the effort to reduce DUIs and DUI related crashes. In support of Safe Streets month, ONUS RidesTM is offering $10 ride credits to thousands of consumers in Denver that can be used with Uber or Lyft beginning December 1, 2019.
Community leaders, such as nonprofits, government agencies, and businesses play a powerful role in discouraging driving under the influence. SSI believes that the only way to make the streets in our community safer is to bring awareness to the issue. You can help do that by promoting Safe Streets Month at your business, nonprofit, or government agency.
“It's been my mission since the dream of ONUS Rides was born to reduce DUIs. As a liquor store owner, I have felt a responsibility to take care of my customers even after they leave my store. I am grateful for the opportunity to show my support for Safe Streets Month in the hope of encouraging the Denver community to enjoy themselves, while out, safely,” says Vishal Patel, CEO, Onus Enterprises, LLC. d/b/a ONUS Rides.TM
