Supporting Single Moms, BSSI Collects More Than 26,000 Diapers in First Annual Diaper Drive
People’s Bank, Harcum House, and Fairhope Hospice are named joint first-place winners in contest for Bottoms Up Diaper Drive.
Columbus, OH, November 14, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Coinciding with National Diaper Week, Business Systems Solutions Inc. (BSSI) engaged the community to participate in their first ever Annual Diaper Drive throughout the month of September. In April, Jo Welsh, head of Bottoms Up Diaper Drive, approached Diana Spurgus, owner of BSSI, about having her company donate diapers. However, after hearing some staggering statistics, Diana went a step further.
“When I learned that one in three moms suffer with diaper need and that childcare centers can refuse service if parents can’t supply disposable diapers, I felt compelled to do something. Growing up as the oldest child in a single-parent home with limited resources, I shared in the worries of having enough diapers to take care of my youngest sibling. The need really resonated with me,” stated Spurgus.
BSSI decided to create a contest where clients, friends, and family could compete in donating diapers – striving toward a goal of supplying ten Ohio children with diapers for an entire year. The first-place winner would receive lunch for their entire company and second place would win breakfast. BSSI and Bottoms Up were overwhelmed by the community’s response. With 14 companies competing and a multitude of friends and friends-of-friends also participating, BSSI collected more than 26,000 diapers – enough to supply 11 children in Ohio with an entire year’s worth of diapers.
Welsh said, “Diana Spurgus and the BSSI staff exceeded all expectations. We were blown away by the partnerships she brought in and the total number of diapers—more than 26,000 diapers along with baby wipes and some adult diapers too! Their great care and enthusiasm were remarkable. The families we serve will be blessed by the generosity of BSSI, their staff, and their clients.”
Due to the incredible response and effort put forth, BSSI decided to name three first place winners - People’s Bank, Harcum House, and Fairhope Hospice. The companies were presented with their prizes and certificates the last week of October with Harcum House donating their winnings back.
