Offshore Sailing School Hosts Regatta to Celebrate Saving Lives
Fort Myers, FL, April 10, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Offshore Sailing School will host the Fantasy Sail Leukemia Cup Challenge on December 13, 2008 at Pink Shell Beach Resort and Spa in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida. Fantasy Sail is an annual event bringing together those who raised a minimum of $8,500 by organizing, promoting or participating in a Leukemia Cup Regatta to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).
Gary Jobson, spokesperson for the Leukemia Cup Regattas will be present at this event. A world-class sailor, TV commentator, author and corporate advisor based in Annapolis, Maryland, Jobson has won numerous one-design and offshore championships, the America's Cup with Ted Turner in 1977, the Fastnet Race and has also led ambitious expeditions to the Arctic, Antarctica and Cape Horn. Jobson will give one of his inspiring talks Thursday prior to the Leukemia Cup Challenge at St. Charles Yacht Club in Ft. Myers. “Gary is a fabulous entertainer,” says Doris Colgate, Offshore's CEO. “We are thrilled he will give us this special evening.”
Ten Colgate 26 sailboats, donated by Offshore Sailing School for Fantasy Sail Weekend will be sailed by successful sailors dedicated to funding research to cure Leukemia and Lymphoma.
The event starts at 3:30 p.m. Friday, December 12, with fund-raising workshops and a welcome party. Saturday, December 13, racing starts at 9 a.m. with an awards party and dinner at 6:30 p.m.
To raise additional funds for LLS, Offshore Sailing School has scheduled two three-hour on-water workshops on the Colgate 26s. Topics include go-fast adjustments, spinnaker work, upwind and downwind techniques and tactics. Fifty percent of the $395 per person fee will go to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
In addition, Offshore is providing its five-day Learn to Sail, Performance and Bareboat Cruising courses at $200 off the regular tuition to Fantasy Sail participants who decide to come in a week early or stay a week later. Half of the per-person tuitions go to LLS, resulting in donations of up to $650 per course. Reservations for workshops and courses must be received in advance.
Offshore Sailing School courses include Learn to Sail through Ocean Passage Making, plus Performance Racing courses at eight locations. Tortola, British Virgin Islands and four Florida campuses in Ft. Myers Beach, Captiva Island, St. Petersburg and the Keys operate year-round. St. Michaels, Maryland; Liberty Landing Marina, Jersey City, New Jersey; and Chelsea Piers, New York City are seasonal.
