Colorado Springs Cajun Band Helps Fight Cystic Fibrosis

Colorado Springs, CO, April 11, 2008 --(PR.com)-- To benefit The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Colorado Springs Cajun band "The Bayou Cats" will be performing live on Saturday, May 17th at 10:30 AM. They will be performing outdoors at America The Beautiful (Confluence) Park for the "Great Strides" Cystic Fibrosis Walk to help raise money for research and treatment. This is a cause close to the hearts of The Bayou Cats, because band leader Mike Perry’s grandson, Preston Perry, suffers from cystic fibrosis.

Preston Perry was born on January 27, 2007. A few days after birth, he was diagnosed with a meconium ileus that was unresponsive to normal treatment, which prompted an emergency surgery to relieve stomach pressure and allow normal breathing. After a short period of monitoring, Preston experienced more stomach swelling due to internal bleeding which led to another surgery to remove approximately a foot and a half of his intestines. Preston was then tested for cystic fibrosis, which eventually came back positive. He was kept in ICU for 3 more weeks of monitoring and was finally released to go home, where he spent only 5 days. He was admitted back into the hospital after blood tests revealed the possibility of a rare liver disease. A procedure to rule out billiary atresia was performed. Thankfully, everything checked out OK and after a few more days of observation, Preston was finally released to go home with his family. He is currently undergoing regular treatments, and is responding well.

The Bayou Cats are a Colorado Springs-based Cajun/Zydeco band who formed in January 2008. Performing many classic Louisiana songs in both English and French, as well as putting a Cajun spin on other popular songs, The Bayou Cats bring the best of Louisiana music and culture to the Pikes Peak area, and create a party atmosphere that’s great for Cajun dancing.

Band leader/accordion player Mike Perry plays multiple instruments, and has performed live and done studio recording with many Louisiana music legends including Jimmy C. Newman, Wayne Toups, Warren Storm, Camy Doucet and Paul Marx. Mike and guitarist Donnie Schexnayder are authentic Cajuns from the heart of South Louisiana (the city of Crowley, to be exact). Drummer, Wayne Cunningham and bassist, John Wise are from Colorado Springs.

Admission to the Great Strides event is free, but donations will be gratefully accepted for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Anyone who is interested in donating or participating in the CF Walk can get more information at www.cff.org/great_strides.
