World's Most Adventurous Honeymoon Launched This Week
U.S. company launches brand new itinerary that promises to be the "world's most adventurous honeymoon." Elements of the trip include spending the night on a deserted island, kayaking to outer villages, sky diving, wild boar hunting and white water rafting the deep jungle rivers.
Ridgecrest, CA, April 17, 2008 --(PR.com)-- What does wild boar hunting, skydiving, white water rafting, hanging from a wire over the rainforest canopy and spending the night on a deserted island have to do with honeymoons? Everything, according to Fiji Adventures, a California based travel company, which launched its “World’s Most Adventurous Honeymoon” itinerary last week.
The 14-day package highlights the adventurous side of Fiji, and takes guests to five different islands throughout the 300+ island archipelago. “I’d categorize some of the activities as ‘extreme’,” explains Marketing Director Susan de Geus, who lives on Fiji’s main island full time to facilitate the tours. “Skydiving and hunting for wild boars in the Fiji bush are definitely not what most honeymooners come to Fiji to experience,” she says. “But while the entire itinerary is adventure oriented, we give couples a break with soft activities like kayaking and snorkeling over the world’s fourth largest reef,” she explains.
An unusual aspect of the itinerary is a “survivor-style” trip to a small, deserted outer island. “We thought it would be fun to include a total survivor night – no electricity, no creature comforts, only a tent, the southern skies above, and the sound of the waves on the reef,” says de Geus.
Since the release of the itinerary, two couples have tentatively booked the package, with other inquiries posted daily. Melanie Manning, a photo research editor from Laguna Beach, CA booked the trip for her honeymoon in May, 2009. Manning and her fiancé Alexander Carter, an art director for Billabong in Irvine, felt the creative nature of the honeymoon package suited their personalities. “We’re both a bit artistic, a bit offbeat, and when I saw this trip online, I said to Alex, ‘we just have to do this.’”
“And,” she adds, “I really want to get a picture of Alexander coming out of the jungle with a wild boar on his back!”
Las Vegas surgical nurse Rita Shepard plans to book the trip this year for her and her boyfriend, a law enforcement professional. “We’re not on our honeymoon, but we are both pretty active and up for just about anything,” says Shepard. “I’ve been to Fiji once before, and loved it, and this gives us a chance to do something really different. And to see five islands – well, that sold us right there.”
“There was a time when honeymoons were all about lounging,” explains de Geus. “Couples were mainly interested in lying by a resort pool or on the beach, with a tropical drink in their hand. She’s seen the trend change in the last 5-10 years, with a focus on “experience” rather than “relaxation.” In answer to this growing trend, Fiji Adventures created what they are touting as a total adventure experience for intrepid couples. De Geus proclaims “it’s not for everyone, but couples who experience it will certainly own the bragging rights.”
