New Courses Exclusively for Women Make Perfect Girlfriend Escapes
Women’s Escape Weeks in 2008 include several different on-water retreats – three in sailing and one for operating power boats. These days, it’s all about finding an activity that allows women to be in command of their lives. That’s what makes these escapes so special; getting out on the water, with confidence to take the helm comfortably.
Fort Myers, FL, April 17, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Offshore Sailing School’s CEO, Doris Colgate, started women’s programs in 1990 to attract more women to sailing and empower women to take charge of their lives through sailing. Now thousands of women have gravitated to the variety of activities her efforts spawned, from focused seminars at all-sail boat shows to exciting hands-on learning vacations.
Women’s Escape Weeks in 2008 include several different on-water retreats – three in sailing and one for operating power boats. These days, says Colgate, it’s all about finding an activity that allows women to be in command of their lives. “That’s what makes these escapes so special; getting out on the water, with confidence to take the helm comfortably,” she explains with a knowing smile. “My life is 24/7 running a company. Sailing rejuvenates me,” says Colgate (shown at left) who was tapped to write SAILING: A Woman’s Guide, published by Ragged Mountain Press/McGraw-Hill in 1999. A copy of this informative book is sent to all women enrolled in Offshore’s Sailing Escapes.
Fast Track to Cruising® is the school’s most popular program. These exclusive vacations start with a three or four-day Learn to Sail course aboard award-winning Colgate 26s, followed immediately by a Bareboat Cruising Preparation or Live Aboard Cruising course on impressive 44’-49’ sailing yachts. The Fast Track to Cruising® Women’s Escapes are at South Seas Island Resort on Captiva Island, Florida, May 1-9 and in the British Virgin Islands, June 18-29 and October 15-26.
No more than four women are taught on a boat at a time, each by an accomplished Offshore Sailing School woman instructor. The 10-day all-inclusive BVI package is $4445 per person double occupancy and includes two comprehensive courses – Learn to Sail and Live Aboard Cruising – three certifications, five nights ashore, six nights living aboard, parties, most meals while aboard, gala graduation celebration, course textbooks, sailing gloves, and a 24-hour mini-cruise without the instructor aboard at the end of the course.
“At course end these women will be ready to bareboat charter, rent a yacht without a hired skipper as they would a car without a chauffeur,” says Colgate.
The nine-day package at South Seas Island Resort on Captiva Island, with sailing in the Gulf of Mexico, includes shore accommodations throughout the period and starts at $3990 double occupancy.
A Spa-Sail Escape Week, August 3-9, at the Pink Shell Beach Resort & Spa on Ft. Myers Beach, Florida brings women together to share a learning vacation in another fun-filled setting on the Gulf of Mexico. The package starts at $1965 per person double occupancy and includes a choice of the five-day Learn to Sail, Performance or Bareboat Cruising Preparation course, course textbooks, certification, six nights for the price of five in a nautically appointed room with kitchenette and large lanai overlooking the beach with sunset views, a practice sail without the instructor aboard, Aquagene Spa sessions, parties, a midweek dinner and Friday night graduation gala. The courses are all taught in half-day sessions, with time set aside to chill out or explore this fascinating eco-minded region.
Another option is for women who relish speed but lack the skills to take command of a power yacht. A Fast Track to Power Cruising® getaway November 9-15 in the British Virgin Islands allows women to learn aboard sexy new Moorings 46 power cats, while cruising the deep blue waters of the British Virgin Islands. “Fast, fun and powerful, these boats have been known to humble many a man,” says Colgate.
“Our women instructors have the skills to help other women go from passenger to confident skipper, ready to take charge and power away.” The complete package starts at $4120 double occupancy and includes one night ashore, six nights aboard during the live-aboard course, course textbook, all breakfasts, lunches and four dinners aboard, boating gloves, parties, an overnight practice cruise without the instructor aboard at the end of the course, and discounts on a first Moorings power charter.
