Special Care Dentistry Association Announces 2008 Award Recipients
Chicago, IL, April 19, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Special Care Dentistry Association (SCDA) has announced the recipient of the 2008 Harold Berk Award is Dr. Arthur Nowak, Executive Director, American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. In 1992, the Academy of Dentistry for Persons with Disabilities established the Harold Berk Award with the cooperation of Dr. Berk’s sons and the Pulpdent Corporation to honor a dentist who has demonstrated excellence in the field of oral health care for the disabled.
The 2008 Saul Kamen Award recipient is Dr. Burton Wasserman, Director of Dentistry, The New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens. This award honors an individual who demonstrates exemplary leadership and contributions to the advancement of oral healthcare for persons with special needs. Named after Dr. Saul Kamen, a dentist who devoted his career to improving oral healthcare for individuals of all ages with special needs, this annual award is the highest honor bestowed by SCDA in memory of one of its founding fathers.
The 2008 Dr. Lawrence J. Chasko Distinguished Service Award recipient is Dr. Paul Mitchell, General Practice Residency Program Director, St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center. This award is given to a member of SCDA who has noteworthy achievements at the local, regional or national level which support and promote the mission and goals of the Association. Dr. Mitchell was chosen based on his character, dedication to the field and ethical standards, as exemplified by Lawrence J. Chasko.
