Salt Lake City, UT, April 19, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Oak Ridge National Laboratory believes in rewarding small businesses for the outstanding services and supplies that they provide to Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The Annual Awards Program is an opportunity to recognize these small firms and the individuals who give a tremendous amount of support to both to the small business community and the ORNL Small Business Programs Office. This year, on Thursday, April 10, UT-Battelle recognized their achievements at the 9th Annual Small Business Subcontractor Awards Program, held at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory Conference Center. About 60% of ORNL subcontract dollars go to small businesses so the awards are very competitive with only 7 being given per year. These include awards in the categories of disadvantaged businesses, woman owned businesses, hub-zones businesses, service disabled veteran owned businesses and veteran owned businesses.
Lone Peak Productions, a Salt Lake City based video production company, was nominated by Stacy Johnson of ORNL’s procurement division who enlisted the assistance of John Sorensen to complete the needed paperwork on the nomination. Based on the outstanding work conducted by Lone Peak on three “Animals in Emergencies” videos, Lone Peak won the award this year for the best veteran owned small business. The award was presented to Bob Rock, owner and president of the company and Steve Smith, editor and producer of the video, by lab director Dr. Thom Mason.
Jim Freeman a Knoxville news anchor and master of the ceremonies noted the collaboration between Lone Peak and ORNL on this project was extremely important to FEMA’s mission. His station had ran a feature story on the videos soon after their release.
