Your Kid Can Be a Bestselling Author. Why Not You?

Oakland, CA, March 21, 2006 --(PR.com)-- During National Novel Writing Month over 60,000 grownups attempted to write a novel--and nearly 90% of them failed. By contrast kid authors are striking it rich.

Christopher Paolini's epic-fantasy Eragon, penned at age 15, reached #1 on the New York Times bestseller list. Flavia Bujor wrote The Prophecy of the Stones when she 14 and turned that into a best-seller in France and Germany in 2002. Since it sold to more than 20 publishers including Miramax, with a print run of 65,000 copies in April 2004. Invalid Mattie Stepanek, a frequent guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, who died at age 13, wrote poems for peace. His five Heartsongs volumes have sold more than half a million copies.

So if you're under 16 or are a poet you probably have a better chance of getting a 6 figure book advance than your parents.

But that doesn't stop 81% of the population from wanting to become authors--and not unknown authors, but a bestsellers. And sometimes the prestige isn't enough. First time and experienced authors alike want to make money fast. While that may be possible, it's not quite so simple.

“Often the first step to becoming a bestselling author is to get a 6 figure book advance,” says Susan Harrow, an author herself of the bestselling book, Sell Yourself Without Selling Your Soul (HarperCollins), The Ultimate Guide to Getting Booked on Oprah and Get a 6 Figure Book Advance. Harrow says that you don't even need to write that book yourself, you just need to have a million dollar idea that appeals to a mass audience.

While that may sound easy, it's not--unless you know how to work the system, which Harrow does. Harrow's clients are high powered business people and authors (everyone from CEOs to soccer moms, rock star wives to reality TV stars) who garnered 6 figure advances. She has identified the top traits that made these authors successful and teaches these traits to aspiring and experienced authors.

“Many people think they'll just ship their book off to a publisher and voila, they'll get a big book contract,” says Harrow. “It doesn't work that way.
